Blast From the Past: SUSI's Summer 16 Collection Inspiration, Part II

Why did vegan footwear have to look so… well, plain, for the last twenty years? Unless money grows on trees in your backyard (invite us over, please), splurging on the best cruelty-free footwear of the season is hard to do for most of us. SUSI has answered your prayers for cute, accessible vegan shoes. The secret to our designs? Giving classic, retro silhouettes a modern makeover so you never have to compromise your style for your values.

Check out the inspiration behind a few stars of our summer collection!

Mary Janes were a staple in 60s footwear. As flats or heels, it was a versatile style that has stood the test of time. We took on a classic and Miss Mary was born with a SUSI touch: platforms and sky-high heels. These definitely aren’t the Mary Janes your mother used to wear! Side note: Don’t be surprised when she borrows them from you for a night out with her gals.

Cause total chaos with Emma. Our bare and minimal platform heels are dedicated to Emma Goldman, badass and female anarchist. Known for her political activism, writing, and speeches, Emma played a groundbreaking role in in women’s rights and social issues (hello, birth control), attracting crowds by the thousands. Ironically, similar results are expected from strapping these babies on.

Granny had style. Named after Bianca’s dear grandmother, Dolores is our demure, yet flirty take on a classic wedge. With its almond shaped toe and comfortable wedge silhouette, the Dolores is perfect for your next getaway to the south of France. Dedicating it to Nana Dolores was a no-brainer, as she personally prefered the durability and sustainability of materials like canvas and hemp within her own wardrobe.

That’s it, folks! Stay tuned for the final installment of our design inspiration series.
